Dr. Guina is proud to be a
clinician-educator and greatly enjoys teaching. His educational activities have led to multiple awards, including the Golden Apple Award at Wright State University, and the command-level Physician Educator of the Year in the U.S. Air Force. He has taught and provided clinical supervision for psychiatry, psychology, medical, physician assistant, nursing, social work, and public health students and trainees. His teaching activities include formal lectures, directing graduate-level courses, developing course curricula, direct and indirect supervision of clinical care, shadowing opportunities, supervision of research and scholarly writing, and professional mentorship. Dr. Guina has had faculty appointments at Wright State University, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and Uniformed Services University. Dr. Guina is available to give presentations on these and other mental health topics. In addition to teaching courses, he has given over 50 national, international, regional and institutional presentations. He has provided trainings and workshops for healthcare providers, patients and their families, law enforcement, judges, attorneys, and policy-makers. Dr. Guina has also presented several times at the annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, a national organization dedicated to practice, teaching and research in forensic psychiatry. Residents, students and professional audiences frequently comment on Dr. Guina’s ability to make dry and tedious material more interesting and understandable.
